Tahnee Robinson
Back to Ambassador IndexTahnee embodies strength and hope.
She first learned to dribble the basketball on a dirt court under big Wyoming skies. In love with the sport since a very young age, Tahnee was a standout player at Lander Valley High School and led her team to the Division 3A state championship in 2006.
After two successful years at Sheridan College, Tahnee transferred to the University of Nevada, Reno where she lit up the court, becoming a breakout star during the 2010-11 season. There, the 5-foot, 9-inch guard was one of the top scorers in the nation, averaging an impressive 22.2 points per game.
Success has earned Tahnee the beginning of a professional career. A third round pick by the Phoenix Mercury, she was traded to the Connecticut Sun, a team owned by the Mohegan Tribe. The first Wyoming-born player drafted into the WNBA, Tahnee is also the second American Indian to reach the highest professional league level for female basketball players. Although she did not make a professional roster in 2011, she signed with Elitzur Holon in Israel and continues to improve her WNBA prospects overseas. She is proudly enrolled with the Northern Cheyenne Tribe in Montana and is Eastern Shoshone, Pawnee and Sioux as well.
Her love of basketball has always been her motivation. Like the court she learned to play on, her path hasn’t always been clear, but the talent and drive that define her have created a role model who inspires an entire community.
